Most of my life, I have lived in large cities. As such, I always said that I would never live in a small town. Ever! Of course, life has a way of teaching lessons that you never see coming. I needed to learn the beauty of living life in rural America. My narrow thinking came to an abrupt end as I found myself living in a small town: Spring City, Utah.
My first impression of Spring City was that there was a glaring lack of building, convenient stores, stop lights, homes, and shopping malls. These are the necessary life items that I had become accustomed to. However, the more time I spent here, the more I began to appreciate the staging beauty of the country. Spring City has unique history and is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. The town itself was founded in 1852 and has many buildings still standing today from that time period. I find the history of Spring City to be rich and fascinating. I chose to take pictures of Spring City to showcase its extraordinary beauty. I wanted to give the viewer a state of history as well as the present day beauty Spring City has to offer to both resident and visitor.
In order to achieve this task, I chose to only take pictures within the city limits of Spring City. Most people agree that the use of black and white photographs better depict a historical contest. Therefore, I decided to edit all of my photographs both in color and in black and white in an attempt to show the history of Spring City, as it was then; and, how it has maintained that beauty throughout time.
